Refresh Seattle

Refreshing Digital Web Magazine

How do you tackle a complete re-do of a magazine’s CMS, with its quirks, thousands of pages, and disparate systems—and do it seamlessly in front of a global audience of web professionals?

Digital Web Magazine, one of the top online magazines for professional web designers, web developers, and information architects has been sailing along for over ten years. However, its underpinnings, though originally conceived by a top programmer, were showing their age and limitations.

Walker Hamilton will discuss how he approached the challenge, and then successfully rolled the existing features and administration applications into a compact whole. He’ll cover the Digital Web site, database, cakePHP, php frameworks, and team development—and reveal the sticky issues and gotchas he encountered along the way.
