All would agree that an outline is necessary for any Web site, no mater how big or small it is. The question that often gets overlooked is the necessity to prioritize what makes it into the outline. Who makes that call? Is it marketing, the company execs, IT, that huge-ass focus group the “agency” pulled together, or the product development team? In many cases it’s a combination of the above, all giving their input on the portions of the site they will own, and (if they ever get around to it) write the content for.

We’ll take a look at a few practical ideas for managers, designers and developers to use on your next project. These can apply to client work, an internal site, or hosted product. The point is not what the site does, but what’s it for. Finding that out and incorporating it into an outline is life or death for any project.

About the Speaker

Jon Pederson’s background in visual media and communications dates back to 1992, when he began working with producers of documentaries, some of which aired on National Geographic and Discovery. Around that time he began exploring other areas of visual communications, and in 1999 started his own company doing graphic and Web design for clients. From there he formed PWG Design.

In addition to acting as principle owner of PWG Design, Jon is involved in the Web community as a proponent of standards-based Web design and far-future planning of the Web. He participates in organizations and groups within the Web design and development industry, and is passionate about creating strong relationships with other thinkers and Web strategists.

Jon is the father of three daughters, and has been married for almost 10 years. He enjoys spending what time he can with his family, camping, hiking and exploring outdoors. Visiting local pubs and breweries is pretty common on Jon's schedule, as he is a connoisseur of fine beer as well.
